Looks like I’m the first and only one to comment, which is cool because maybe you guys will actually read it! ha ha. Anyway, the new LP has not only met, but has vastly exceeded all of my expectations. As much as i have really liked Resolution, Wrath and, Sacrament, ( Palaces is my fave and, Ashes next ) the more i listen to this new one the more it reveals and the greater it becomes! I actually had the pleasure of meeting you guys back in 2002 right before Palaces was released. You guys were playing this converted bowling alley in Louisville Ky and i had the pleasure of talking to you guys after the show and, even helped you guys load out! I have been a huge fan since then as i am an “old” metal head myself (48 years old ). Back to the new lp which i think is a modern metal masterpiece comparable to such classic metal records as Justice, Rust in Peace,Mercyful Fates “Don’t Break the Oath” etc.
I am always honest with my opinions on music so,i’ll be just as honest here bc i think you guys value your fans and them not blowing smoke up your ass’s. Of the last 3 lp’s i liked Sacrament overall the best, then Resolution, and Wrath. To MY ears Wrath was a bit one dimensional by your alls lofty standards and though Resolution was overall very good, i felt it tailed off a bit after the first “side” if you will. There is NO tailing off on this new one though as it is simply one great song after another! I LOVED the clean singing on Overlord as it was not only very different vocally but, i also felt that it showed another side musically as well. Did it take some arm twisting of Chris to go along with this track? lol What i like best about this LP though, is as i said it seems to reveal something new of itself upon each listen. The best way i can describe it is this way. It reminds me of the BEST elements of “progressive metal” without being over long or, wearing out its welcome. Don’t get me wrong, i always tell the wife that Iwould love to see what you guys would come with if you wrote longer tunes that further explored some of those GREAT riffs you guys come up with bc i think you guys could actually piss all over some of the “classic” prog type metal lp’s like the aforementioned Justice etc. but, on this one, you guys seemed to let the riffs “marinate” just the right length and, structure.
As an amateur guitar player myself, i have very much enjoyed sitting here and TRYING to figure out some of these fast, complicated tunes! So far, i have listened to it all the way through 40+ times and it is creeping up not only my LOG fave chart but is also climbing my all time fave ANY genre chart as well. Delusion Pandemic is my favorite track and i HOPE you guys put it in your set list. For me the best way i know of to properly rate or, “review” a new lp is to think about how not only the music, but the lyrics affect me and, how they produce a feeling and/or an emotion. This LP knocks me out in both ways and, even though i know ( or suspect ) the subject matter of each song, Randy and Mark have done an absolutely MASTERFUL JOB of allowing the listener to ( even for those who DONT know the backstory on a couple tunes ) to FEEL the lyrics and interpret them in ways that apply to MY life, or, in other cases how they describe someone i know. That to me anyway is the mark of a bunch of truly talented and, introspective lyricist and musicians . Ill sign out for now and I hope you guys have read my comments. Have a great tour and congrats on what may be the best LP that you guys have ever written!
LOG fan for life
